Extreme Makeover: Hello...and Goodbye!

The ABC television show "Extreme Makeover" has returned to national TV...only to be yanked off the air after one episode. It had one low-rated airing this past Friday night, and has since been cancelled. How could this be?
Plastic surgery has now evolved from the at-times-hideous display of completely changing how someone looks. Good plastic surgery now involves more natural results, hidden scars, and above all, retaining the essence of who a person is. Most patients don't want to look like someone else. They want to look like a better version of themselves. That's what the top plastic surgeons now strive to do, not create a Barbie Doll carbon copy of the same "The Swan" contestant with over-arched eyebrows, DD breasts, plumped up lips, and long, flowing hair.
If I had a patient who looked in the mirror after surgery, put their hands to the side of their face like Macaulay Culkin in "Home Alone" and started screaming at the top of their lungs, I would be a tad bit concerned.
There still remains at least one major plastic surgery reality show on the air. "Extreme Makeover" is no "Dr. 90210."
