Goldie Hawn

Is Goldie Hawn starting to look her age? She has been the subject of plastic surgery rumors for years, and in my opinion has really looked good for a long time. Sure, she's had the obligatory large lips and all, but for a 60 year old woman she still looks fantastic. Here is a link to some more candid photos of her without all the makeup and airbrushing which show that she is a regular person, like all of us, and ages somewhat appropriately. In my experience, 60 year old women don't have straight necklines like hers without a bit of plastic surgery help. At least she hasn't gone "Overboard!" (sorry)

Jennifer Grey

Jennifer Grey is a good example of how a rhinoplasty can really change someone's looks, whether for good or bad. The removal of the bump on her nose (dorsal hump is the scientific term) made her look very different from Baby in "Dirty Dancing." I personally think she looks better, but the problem is that she doesn't look like she used to. Her nose was one of her defining features (like Julia Roberts without her lips, Cindy Crawford without her mole, or David Letterman without the gap between his front teeth), and now she just doesn't look the same. See some of the Jacksons for other examples.

Have a good Memorial Day weekend!

Dr. Robert Rey

Is Dr. Robert Rey a hero? It appears the star of Dr. 90210 recently helped during a skirmish on a plane we was flying on.
Now I don't know Dr. Rey too well, but I have met him on a few occasions during my time as a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. Some of you may remember my all-too-brief time on the show as well. My office was located in the same building that he operated in, and he was kind enough to show me his technique for breast augmentation through the belly button. My impression of him was much like you see on TV. He is a good guy, does a lot of good work for people, and was very gracious with me. He gave me some good advice during the time I spent with him, and I think has done very well for himself.
Dr. Rey completed a breast and cosmetic plastic surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School's Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. He has also attended such prestigious universities as the U.C.L.A. School of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine and Harvard University. I think very highly of him.
I've also met Dr. Linda Li and her husband Bill. They also were very gracious people, and I think very highly of them as well.

Katie Couric

Has Katie Couric had plastic surgery? From the photos that I've seen, I don't think she's had anything major done. Overall, I think she has aged fairly well, although it is difficult to really know how she looks like since the TV makeup can cover up so much.
She does appear to have had Botox injections to her forehead, resulting in nary a wrinkle up there. Interestingly, she may not have had the injections into her crow's feet, which is a very common place to have them as well. I do not think she's had a facelift or other major plastic surgery, as she does have some early looseness to her neck which is common in people her age.
Now, what SHOULD she consider having? One thing I'd consider is a gummy smile repair. A "gummy smile" is what you see when someone smiles and a significant portion of their gums show (like Lilly Tomlin). There are several treatments for this, including breaking the facial bones and setting them back (very painful), shaving the gums back to show more teeth and less gums (can result in "buck teeth"), or my favorite technique, taught to me by one of my mentors, Dr. Richard Ellenbogen. The gummy smile can be improved by making a small incision inside the nose and the cutting the muscles which pull the lip up. A small plastic implant in then placed between the muscle edges to prevent them from growing back together. It's a very slick operation with virtually no visible scars and nice results. Dr. Ellenbogen has some nice before and afters here.
By the way, I have a small gummy smile and considered having it repaired but never got around to it. Now I just avoid making big, toothy grins.

Nicole Ritchie

Has Nicole Ritchie been shopping for a nose job? I've read on the Truth in Cosmetic Surgery Blog that this may be true. Here is a link to the story.
Body dysmorphic disorder (or BDD) is a psychiatric disease where the person afflicted sees something different in the mirror than what everyone else sees. It is often clustered around the nose, and this is what often makes rhinoplasty (nose job) patients very difficult to work with. A rhinoplasty patient with BDD will look in the mirror and see a horrible-looking hook nose where everyone else sees a nice-looking nose with a slightly large tip. This often causes people to undergo several surgeries by several surgeons in an attempt to "fix" what another surgeon did or to continue to whittle away at a formerly good-looking nose. I have seen some patients who've had their noses operated on 10 (yes, ten!) times and were still looking to get it done again. Scar tissue builds up with each surgery, and the nose looks worse and worse. This is what I believe has happened to Michael Jackson.

Jessica Alba - rhinoplasty? Doubt it

Has Jessica Alba had a rhinoplasty? Why would she alter that pretty face of hers? Take a peek at PlasticFantastic.Gossiprocks.com for details. There are some questions regarding the photo, so if anyone has more information, feel free to comment. Hopefully she hasn't messed up that pretty face of hers.
